Harer Nama

As I was distributing books yesterday I had a big realization - no amount of ability on my part is going to get these books out. No amount of sweet-talking is going to inspire people - in fact, it's the "same old, same old" and keeps people on the same mundane, bodily platform. I wanted to practice depending less on what I think my supposed "skills" are, and depend solely on Krishna for help in distributing His books. So, I decided to start teaching people the Maha-Mantra right away, and let the effect of the mantra do it's work. I met Danny, and told him, "Hey, can I teach you a mantra?" We chanted together Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare/ Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. After chanting he said, "You've gotta say it over and over again to realize it." I was so surprised at his profound comment, and I exclaimed, "Yes! You're right!" He said he would try the chanting and come to Mantra Lounge. I taught every single person I met today the Maha-mantra, and not only were the books flying out of my hands, but I found I was making genuine connections with people. Some people even really got into the chanting, putting their arms in the air and closing their eyes - a drop of transcendental bliss!

"In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy, the only means of deliverance is the chanting of the holy name of the Lord. There is no other way. There is no other way. There is no other way." [Adi 17.21]

"When someone heard the chanting of the holy name from the mouth of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, and someone else heard this chanting from that second person, and someone again heard this chanting from the third person, everyone in all countries became a Viasnava through such disciplic succession. Thus everyone chanted the holy name of Krsna and Hari, and they danced, cried and smiled." [Madhya17.48-49]
