Rainy Day San Kirtan ~~ February 7, 2015
Today was raining really hard all day! I noticed that very few people stopped, but the few that did
were highly spiritual people and ripe for Krishna Bhakti.
One boy, Xavier, listened to me pitch the Bhagavad Gita to
him for a while and then suddenly said “who are you?” in amazement. He was
amazed because he said he had just recently had a spiritual awakening, one day
he just began questioning everything and suddenly understood everything with
such clarity – since then he’s had many experiences of synchronicity, and
meeting me on Locust walk was one of them. He said something was telling him to
walk this way even though it didn’t make sense because it was raining and the
longer route, but he followed his gut instinct and now he knows why – it was to
get the Bhagavad Gita. He said he would come to Mantra Lounge on Friday for the
Philosophy discussions..
The next boy I met, Benjamin, listened to my pitch of the
Bhagavad Gita and then took it immediately and gave a donation. When I asked
him if he’d always been interested in transcendental knowledge, he said no, but
said when he got hit with depression a few years ago his perspective on life
started to change and he started to take a deeper and more questioning look at
life. He said, “you know the saying, ‘ignorance is bliss’”, well I think that
was me – walking through life in happy ignorance until life punched me in the
face, and then I had to look at it differently.” Turned out wise Benjamin was
only 16 years old, a junior in high school! To such a rare soul I felt honored
to meet and give him the Bhagavad Gita.
I started to realize that the people that were stopping and
taking books today were actually really special and rare souls. Who else would
stop to talk in a heavy rain storm to a random lady who was soaking from head
to toe with some books in her hands? Krishna really reciprocated with me today,
and I feel so grateful to have His mercy.
"The flood of love of Godhead
swelled in all directions, and thus young men, old men, women and children were
all immersed in that inundation...The Kṛṣṇa consciousness
movement will inundate the entire world and drown everyone, whether one be a
gentleman, a rogue or even lame, invalid or blind...When the five members of the
Pañca-tattva saw the entire world drowned in love of Godhead and the seed of
material enjoyment in the living entities completely destroyed, they all became
exceedingly happy...The more the five members of
the Pañca-tattva cause the rains of love of Godhead to fall, the more the
inundation increases and spreads all over the world." Caitanya Caritamrta, Adi Lila, 7.25-28
Srila Prabhupada writes: The
Krishna Consciousness movement is not stereotyped or stagnant. Here it is indicated that this process will spread and inundate the entire
world.
